Nayyar: Recessive Dystrophic
|
My name is Nayyar Hayat. I am 47 years old, and I have RDEB.
I understand from published data and patient stories that survival into my age is very rare, especially for men with EB. I hope my story could help bring hope to other EB patients and families, showing that life with EB, though difficult, can go beyond expectations. I live with around 20 chronic wounds on my body. Some heal, but others never do. Infections come again and again, and when it strike, new wounds open up. Many of these wounds stretch and grow instead of closing. The pain is constant, but I have learned to endure it. What surprises even me is that I have survived until now. For most people with EB as severe as mine, doctors expect life to end in the 20s or 30s. I believe this is fine-tuning by Allah Rabb-ul-Izzat — a mercy that goes beyond medical explanation. To anyone else living with EB: do not give up. Even in suffering, there is strength. Even in pain, there can be survival. |
